Tennessee Vols Basketball rolls over Tennessee Tech, 103-49

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Six double-figure scorers and a lights-out shooting night led the 10th-ranked Tennessee Vols basketball team to a resounding, 103-49 victory over Tennessee Tech Friday at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The 54-point win was Tennessee’s (4-0) eighth-largest margin of victory in program history. Friday’s result over the Golden Eagles (0-8) also marked the most points the Vols have scored since dropping 106 on Arkansas on January 15th, 2019.

The Volunteers finished the night shooting .583 from the field (42-72), along with a highly efficient .474 (9-19) mark from 3-point range.

Tennessee Vols Basketball beats Florida, 63-58

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – A game-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting from John Fulkerson led the way as Tennessee defeated Florida for the fourth consecutive time. The win also marks the Vols’ 50th regular-season SEC victory under fifth-year head coach Rick Barnes.

Vols freshman Josiah-Jordan James stuffed the stat sheet, recording 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists in 40 minutes. 

The Vols began the contest red hot from the floor, connecting on eight of 14 field goals and forcing the Gators into six turnovers by the 8:00 media timeout.

Santiago Vescovi to join Tennessee Vols Basketball Midseason

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee Vols basketball coach Rick Barnes has announced a midseason addition to the roster, as highly-rated international prospect Santiago Vescovi (pronounced: sahn-tee-AH-go vess-CO-vee) is set to join the team this weekend. Vescovi officially signed with UT on November 22nd.
 
A 6-2 guard from Montevideo, Uruguay, Vescovi will begin classes as a freshman on January 8th and plans to major in Business. He must await standard NCAA and SEC clearance protocols before becoming eligible to compete in games, and a decision on whether or not he will compete this season has yet to be made.

Tennessee Vols Basketball defeats Jacksonville State, Rick Barnes gets 700th career win

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – A second-half offensive outburst propelled the No. 21 Tennessee Vols basketball team to a 75-53 win over Jacksonville State Saturday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena.
 
The win stands as the 700th in Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes‘ 33-year career.
 
Jordan Bowden led the Vols in scoring with 19 points, as John Fulkerson (16), Yves Pons (11) and Josiah-Jordan James (10) also reached double figures scoring.

Clarksville’s Mariah Smith finishes 3rd at Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate for University of Tennessee

UT Lady VolsSevierville, TN – Former Clarksville High School golfer and state champion Mariah Smith, helped lead a Tennessee contingent of golfers to a strong showing this past weekend at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.  All three Lady Vols competed as individuals, finishing in the top 6.

“All in all, it was a great week,” Volunteer Assistant Coach Luis Pavon said. “We had three top-six finishes.”

The Volunteers were led by freshman Mariah Smith who finished tied for third, shooting a 54-hole total of 222 with her best round coming on Sunday where she shot an even-par 71.

Tennessee Vols come up short against Loyola-Chicago, 63-62

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsDallas, TX – No. 3 seed Tennessee’s season came to an end on Saturday night, as the Vols suffered a heartbreaking loss to 11th-seeded Loyola-Chicago, 63-62, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Vols (26-9) made one last push at the end of the game, using an 8-0 run to take a 62-61 lead with 20 seconds remaining in the game, capped off by a three-point play from Grant Williams.
 
Clayton Custer knocked down a 10-foot jumper with 3.6 seconds left on the clock to regain the lead. Without any timeouts, Jordan Bone caught the ball near midcourt and shot a three that bounced of the rim as time expired.

Tennessee Vols Football beats UT Chattanooga 45-10 at Neyland Stadium

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Senior quarterback Justin Worley threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more as Tennessee pounded Chattanooga, 45-10, before 93,097 on Homecoming at Neyland Stadium. The Vols ended a three-game losing streak and evened their record at 3-3.

Worley finished the day 19-of-24 for 198 yards connected with Johnathon Johnson twice and Marquez North once for touchdowns. Worley became the first Vols quarterback with a pair of rushing scores in a game since Casey Clausen ran for a two 1-yard TDs in a 2002 Citrus Bowl win over Michigan.

Tennessee Volunteers lose to Florida Gators 10-9 at Neyland Stadium

 

University of Tennessee - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Florida’s winning streak against the Vols continues.

Florida took its first lead of the game with 6:20 left in regulation and held on for a 10-9 victory over Tennessee (2-3, 0-2 SEC). It was the Gators (3-1, 2-1 SEC) 10th consecutive victory in the series, dating to a 30-28 Vols’ victory on Sept. 18th, 2004, on a last-second field goal by James Wilhoit.

Florida’s quarterback change from Jeff Driskel to Treon Harris proved to be the difference for the Gators getting their offense kick-started. He led the Gators to both of their scoring drives and their 10 fourth-quarter points.

Tennessee Volunteers to face Iowa Hawkeyes in NCAA Tournament

UT VolsKnoxville, TN – The Tennessee basketball team faces Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Dayton, Ohio, Wednesday at UD Arena at 9:10pm (ET).

Tickets will be available for purchase on www.ticketmaster.com .

The Volunteers (21-12, 11-7 SEC) are vying for the No. 11 seed in the Midwest Region, which leads to Indianapolis, Ind.

The winner of Wednesday’s game meets No. 6 seed UMass on Friday in a second-round game in Raleigh, N.C.
