Consistency needed for Lady Govs tennis in loss to Kennesaw State

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Despite winning the doubles point, Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 match to Kennesaw State, Monday, at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts.

Two matches after rearranging the doubles teams, head coach Malik Tabet feels more comfortable in his team’s balance. Those feelings were reinforced as junior Vanja Tomic and freshman Kimberly Loo won 8-3 at No.1, while sophomore Carolin Weikard and freshman Andra Cornea won 8-6 at No. 2.

“We’ve made some changes to the lineup to make our team more balanced,” Tabet said. “We won the doubles, so that’s a good thing. When you have to win both doubles, it’s important to have balanced team. We had one team a lot stronger than the other and we had to change it up.”

Unlike the Lady Govs match against Southern Illinois where the freshman earned three singles wins, it was Tomic and Weikard winning straight-set singles match at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Loo lost in three sets at No. 4, while Cornea and Margolies each fell in straight sets.

Carolin Weikard“We’ve got to get the whole team on the same page,” Tabet said. “It’s good to see Carolin win at No. 2, but we need consistency throughout the lineup.”

The Lady Govs, along with the Govs, leave Tuesday for their annual spring break swing to South Alabama for a week of training highlighted by matches against South Alabama and BYU Hawaii.
