APSU Sports Information: Austin Peay Volleyball
Murray, KY – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team finished its 2011 slate with a three-set Ohio Valley Conference sweep (25-16, 25-21, 25-21) of Murray State, Saturday, at Racer Arena.

The Lady Govs trailed early in the opening set, 5-1, but scored six consecutive points to take a 7-5 lead and would not trail again, winning 25-16. Senior Paige Economos had two service aces during the scoring run to help the cause.
Murray State (8-23, 8-12 OVC) pushed the action in teh second set, leading 13-11. Austin Peay would use four consecutive points to take a 15-14 lead before the teams exchanged the next several points. Trailing 19-17, Austin Peay closed the set with a 8-2 run that required only one kill – by freshman Hillary Plybon – as Murray State committed seven errors in the closing stretch.
The third set was a much closer affair with the two squads combining for 10 ties and three lead changes. Austin Peay asserted itself with a set-ending 8-3 run that included three kills by junior Nikki Doyle and a kill each from senior Kayla Grantham and Ilyanna Hernandez to secure the sweep.
Hernandez led the Lady Govs with 10 kills, the only APSU hitter to reach double-digit kill territory. Grantham finished the night with eight kills while Doyle and sophomore Lauren Henderson each added seven kills.
Cassy Woolverton led Murray State with nine kills.
