Clarksville Police report Sulfuric Acid Spill in the Area of Zinc Plant Road and Cumberland Drive

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville Police are asking the public to stay away from the area of Zinc Plant Road and Cumberland Drive (Hwy 48/13). There is a sulfuric acid spill in the area and the road is closed on Cumberland Drive between Hawkins Road and Hillwood Drive.

The Zinc Plant Road bridge is also shut down at this time. A citizen saw an unidentified substance on the road and saw an additional spill on Hwy 48/13 and called 911.

The tanker has been identified and the driver is in Nashville with burns after attempting to stop the leak. There are no additional precautions required at this time. The road will be shut down for an undetermined amount of time.

The leak was from a Palm Trucking tanker out of Lavergne, TN. Anyone who may have driven through the affected area in Clarksville should check their tires for possible damage.

There is not an exact time frame at this point in time, but the damage would probably have been sometime around 7:00pm onward.
