Clarksville, TN – A pair of Austin Peay State University women’s track and field athletes put themselves in position for an NCAA East Preliminary appearance with their performances at the Georgia Tech Invitational, Saturday, at George C. Griffin Track.

“Chantelle did an outstanding job, as she has all season,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “She ran a smart race and moved up at the right times. Her decision-making is very consistent – she made one tactical mistake that we corrected easily. She’s set up well for an NCAA bid.”
Breigh Jones may join Grey in Greensboro for the NCAA Preliminary round. The freshman from Memphis ran a blistering 54.44 in the 400m dash – setting a school record and qualifying for June’s US Junior Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa. Based on projections, she should rank somewhere in the top 50 regionally after the weekend. Jones’ time is also the fastest in the OVC this season.
“I can’t say enough about the job Breigh did,” Molnar said. “She beat some really good athletes. She has a chance to make it to Greensboro as well – we’ll just have to see which people drop out of the 400 and who moves up the rest of the weekend.”
The NCAA East Preliminary is scheduled for May 23rd-25th in Greensboro, N.C. Qualified runners will be announced 12:00pm, May 16th.
