Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Walk with Me Tennessee, Blueway Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening, Sevier Days, and Money Management Fair.

Walk with Me Tennessee

Walk With Me Tennessee

Walk your way to health and prizes this fall and winter with the Walk with Me Tennessee Program and the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department! The Walk with Me Tennessee walking program challenges Clarksvillians to walk across the state using a series of challenges featuring trails in Clarksville.

Participating in this program is easy; just create a free account on www.healthwalkers.com and you are set to begin completing challenges listed on the Health Walkers website! The first participant to report completion of each challenge during the designated challenge period will receive a Walk with Me Tennessee prize pack. For each challenge completed, participant’s names will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize at the end of the 12-week session. The more challenges completed, the more chances to win!

Walk with Me Tennessee will kick off on Tuesday, October 1st from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Clarksville Greenway’s Pollard Road Trailhead, located at 1101 Pollard Road. The kick-off event will feature a variety of booths from outdoor-related businesses and organizations as well as a group walk with Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan. This event will begin the first of two 12-week sessions of the program. The first will run October 1st through December 17th and the second through March 11th, 2014 through May 2nd, 2014.

Blueway Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening

Clarksville BluewayOn Saturday, September 28th, 2013, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will hold a ribbon cutting to mark the opening of the Park and Blueway. The event will begin at 9:00am at Robert Clark Park, 1449 Tiny Town Road. After a few opening words from Mayor Kim McMillan and official ribbon cutting, the public is invited to float the river two and a half miles to Billy Dunlop Park.

All members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend. Those interested in floating are asked to bring their own equipment, as there will be only limited equipment available on a first come, first serve basis. Equipment will need to be dropped off at Robert Clark Park prior to parking at Billy Dunlop Park. A shuttle, from Billy Dunlop Park to Robert Clark Park, will be available beginning at 7:30am. The last shuttle will depart Billy Dunlop Park at 8:45am. Equipment dropped off at Robert Clark Park is the responsibility of its owner.

Sevier Days

Sevier Days at Fort Defiance Interpretive Center September 28th.The Fort Defiance Civil War Park is excited to present “Sevier Days,” an 18th century, pre-Civil War event, September 28th from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Attractions are free and include: flintlock musket firing demonstrations, flint knapper making Indian arrowheads, and authentic blacksmith operation and frontier camp life.

Money Management Fair

2013 Money ManagementThe Kleeman Community Center will be hosting the 2nd Annual Money Management Fair on September 28 from noon to 4:00pm. Families can enjoy inflatables, food and prizes at this financial literacy event!  The Money Management Fair will promote financial literacy in the community starting at a young age.

This fair is open to families, primarily with young children, as fun and games will be used to teach the importance of saving money and how to do so.  This event will feature Maria Jimenez, author of “Accounting for Preschoolers.”
