Erik Hedberg leads APSU at Skyhawk Classic

Buchanan, TN – Senior Erik Hedberg earned his season’s first top-five finish, leading the Govs to a sixth-place finish at the Skyhawk Classic, hosted by UT Martin at Paris Landing Golf Course.

Hedberg’s final-round 73 kept him in a tie for fourth and earned him a spot on the all-tournament team.

UT Martin won its home tournament with a four-under 860 (285-283-292), with John A. Logan (866), Incarnate Word (874), Murray State (880) and Alabama State (882) rounding out the top five.

The Govs finished three shots behind the Hornets, after entering the day tied with them for fourth; the Racers final-round 295 vaulted them ahead of both APSU and Alabama State.

Joining Hedberg on the all-tournament team were co-medalists Hunter Richardson (UT Martin) and Hunter York (John A. Logan), with UT Martin’s Gavin Shellnut, Incarnate Word’s Kevin Smith and Murray State’s Austin Knight earning post-tournament accolades.

Hedberg wasn’t the only Gov to post an excellent outing at Paris Landing. Junior Hunter Tidwell posted his first-top 20 as a Gov, tying for 16th with a 220 (75-71-74) and posting the three best rounds of his APSU career to date.

Junior Justin Arens slipped a bit on the final day but remained in the top-25 thanks to a 223 (72-74-77).

Sophomore Sean Butscher was close behind Arens, tying for 29th with a three-round 226 (76-72-78), while sophomore Sam Lopez closed out his first start with a final-round 79, closing out a 54-hole 234 (77-78-79).

Freshmen Michael Busse (73-75-83=231) and Austin Lancaster (80-79-75=234) were solid competing as individuals.

The Governors will get next week off before hosting the 2016 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tennessee, October 17th-18th.
