Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team carries its unbeaten Ohio Valley Conference record into Morgan Brothers Soccer Field this week for the first time in league play, hosting Eastern Kentucky, 7:00pm, Thursday, and Tennessee Tech, 1:00pm, Sunday.
The Governors (7-4-1, 2-0-1 OVC) enter the week with a four-match unbeaten streak, three of which came against OVC competition.
After topping Morehead State, 1-0, in the opener, APSU held off UT Martin, 4-3, and earned a 1-1 draw at Southeast Missouri last weekend.
As a result, the Govs are third in the conference after their best start since 2013.
Junior forward Kirstin Robertson is coming off another impressive week, totaling two goals and two assists in two matches combined at UT Martin and SEMO.
Robertson was named adidas® OVC Offensive Player of the Week for her performances, becoming just the second Gov in program history to win three weekly honors in one season. She now ranks sixth nationally with 10 goals and seventh in the country with 23 points.
Senior Gina Fabbro, freshman Renee Semaan and sophomore Jennifer Smith also landed on the scoresheet last weekend. Fabbro scored APSU’s second goal in the win over the Skyhawks, followed by a strike from Semaan in the second half, while Smith leveled the score 1-1 at SEMO which helped send the match to overtime.
Eastern Kentucky travels to Clarksville with a spotless record, going 3-0-0 with no goals allowed to begin its OVC schedule. In fact, the Colonels have not been scored on since September 4th at Charleston Southern, outscoring opponents 10-0 in the subsequent five matches. EKU has been stellar in goal, with Anna Hall leading the OVC in goals against average (0.70), save percentage (.865) and shutouts (seven).
The Golden Eagles also own an unbeaten OVC record of 2-0-1, defeating Jacksonville State and Belmont before drawing 1-1 at Morehead State. Abi Gearing and Karigan Owens have proven to be a dynamic tandem, with Gearing scoring five goals and Owens recording a league-leading seven assists thus far.
