Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for July 26th – 28th, 2019

 

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.

The upcoming events include: Cooling at the Cave, Citizen Science in the Park, Snacks & Tracks and Prairie Volunteer Workday.

July 26th

Garden Storytime and Craft

Time: 10:00am – 11:00am

Join Carly in the AV room to hear a garden story and make a seed craft that you can take home and watch grow! Cost is $1.00 to cover the cost of supplies. Please register in advance as space is limited.

July 27th

Citizen Science in the Park

Time: 10:00am – 11:00am

Join Carly at the Prairie Volunteer Workday to learn about citizen science projects that you can contribute to, both at the park and at your own home!

Cooling at the Cave

Time: 3:00pm – 5:00pm

Come enjoy the Cumberland Winds full band at the mouth of the cave. In the 1940s and 50s big band routinely played at Dunbar Cave. Beat the heat and enjoy the natural cool breeze coming from the cave.

The Friends of Dunbar Cave group will provide refreshments (donations welcome). Bring your family, lawn chairs and your dancing shoes!

Prairie Volunteer Workday

Time: 8:00am – 1:00pm

Help Dunbar Cave and the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative continue their work on the parks’ tall grass prairie restoration. We will be working on removing invasive plant species and seed collection of native species to help move seed to other areas of the prairie. Wear work gloves and bring water to stay hydrated. Some tools will be provided but you can also bring your own.

July 28th

Adventure Knot Tying

Time: 2:00pm – 3:00pm

Join Sidney in the A-V room and learn vital knot tying skills for wilderness survival. Suggested minimum age of 8. Cost is $3.00 to cover supplies and please pre-register as space is limited.

Snacks & Tracks

Time: 3:30pm – 4:15pm

Join SIR Marley for Animal Crackers and animal stories. Discuss animal habits & themes from the stories. This program is for children ages toddler to elementary school. Cost is $1.00 to cover supplies.

Dunbar Cave State Park Programs Information

Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the Deadline Listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline will be canceled.

All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.

Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children).

Age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is younger or older than the age limits given.

Dunbar Cave State Park is located at 401 Old Dunbar Cave Road, Clarksville Tennessee.
