Things got kicked off on Wednesday, as Governor baseball players Parker Phillips and Greg Leban had their names selected in the 2019 Major league Baseball Draft.

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Normally exam week is a slow week in athletics, including for Austin Peay State University (APSU), but this past week was no normal week with several huge events occurring for the Governors over the past seven days.

Things got kicked off this pasted Monday, when three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference setter Kristen Stucker was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Women’s Volleyball First Team.

Instant Peay Play: APSU’s Savannah Amato begins what should be historic final season for Govs

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) senior pole vaulter Savannah Amato began her chase for history, December 1st, 2018 as she begins her senior season and the chase to become the Ohio Valley Conference’s all-time leader in pole vaulting gold medals.

Amato, from Delaware, OH, enters her final season having won the last five OVC championships in the pole vault – along with a third-place finish in the indoor championship as a freshman — tying Southeast Missouri’s Michelle Jett (2003-06) and former Gov Carrie Burggraf (2007-10) for the conference’s all-time lead in the event.

2017-18 Top-10 — No. 4: APSU has an abundance of OVC honors

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Usually in Austin Peay State  University’s yearly top-10 countdown, APSU takes special care to identify each individual who was named Ohio Valley Conference Coach, Player, Freshman or other comparable “Of the Year” honor for their respective sport, because that’s a big deal and needs to be recognized as such.

But, well… there were too many this year, so they all get to go here.

Between coaches and players, 14 members of the Austin Peay extended family earned one of the top honors for their respective sport in 2017-18, including five Freshman of the Year honors.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Baseball, Savannah Amato, Tymeitha Tolbert have a big week ahead

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s athletic school year is winding down, but there is still plenty on the line this coming week, with the Governors baseball team heading to the Ohio Valley Conference baseball Championship Tournament, while APSU pole vaulter Savannah Amato and sprinter Tymeitha Tolbert head to the NCAA East Preliminary Meet.

Opening the week will be the Governors baseball team (30-25, 17-13 OVC), who will be the OVC Tournament’s fifth-seed, and will open play, 9:00am, Wednesday at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, AL, versus the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (30-23, 18-12 OVC), the tournament’s fourth-seed.

APSU Track and Fields’s Savannah Amato, Tymeitha Tolbert gain regional qualification

APSU Women's Track and FieldClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University track and field will send a pair of student-athletes to next week’s NCAA East Preliminary in Tampa, Florida, with APSU junior Savannah Amato and sophomore Tymeitha Tolbert scheduled to compete.

This is the seventh year in a row that Austin Peay has had at least one athlete earn regional qualification.

APSU Track and Field’s Savannah Amato shatters Austin Peay Pole Vault record at Hilltopper Relays

APSU Women's Track and FieldBowling Green, KY – In one of the most incredible performances in Austin Peay State University track and field history, junior Savannah Amato shattered a long-held record and all but guaranteed a third straight appearance in the NCAA East Preliminary thanks to her performance at the Hilltopper Relays.

Amato’s 4.17m (13-8.25) mark, cleared on her second attempt at the height, shattered APSU Athletics Hall of Famer Carrie Burggraf’s 2010 mark, giving the Delaware, Ohio native sole possession of both the indoor and outdoor school records.
