APSU Softball takes two from Belmont, Saturday

APSU SoftballNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team continues to add to its record-setting road win total by sweeping Belmont, Saturday at E.S. Rose Park, by finals of 1-0 (in eight innings) and 7-2.

The Govs (27-15, 10-4 OVC) now have 14 true road wins this season, the most by any Ohio Valley Conference school this spring, and four more than in any other season in the program’s history.

APSU BaseballNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team could not break through in a pitchers’ duel and fell 4-0 to Belmont, Sunday afternoon, in Ohio Valley Conference action at E.S. Rose Park.

Despite the loss, Austin Peay (18-14, 9-6 OVC) claimed its fourth OVC series this season after winning the first two games of the series.

Austin Peay State University Baseball beats Belmont, 5-2

APSU BaseballNashville, TN – Second baseman Garrett Giovannelli had a pair of run-scoring doubles and starting pitcher Jacques Pucheu went seven innings as Austin Peay State University’s baseball team downed Belmont, 5-2, Saturday in Ohio Valley Conference action at E.S. Rose Park.

Austin Peay (18-13, 9-5 OVC) got on the board first, striking for three runs in the third inning. Giovannelli supplied the first run with a double inside the third-base bag to drive in center field Imani Willis.

APSU BaseballNashville, TN – Designated hitter Brett Newberg hit three home runs and Austin Peay State University’s baseball team launched five homers in a 10-5 Ohio Valley Conference series-opening win against Belmont, Friday, at E.S. Rose Park.

Newberg’s three home runs came in his first three at-bats and each proved pivotal. His first to right center in the second gave the Govs their first run of the contest.

Austin Peay State University Baseball falls to Southern Illinois, 10-6

APSU BaseballCarbondale, IL – First baseman John McDonald hit his first home run and drove in four runs but Austin Peay State University’s baseball team could not hang on to an early lead in a 10-6 loss to Southern Illinois, Wednesday afternoon.

McDonald, who made his season’s first start at first base, provided a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give Austin Peay (16-13) a 5-3 lead. It was one of his three hits – each driving in a run – for his second three-hit game this season.

APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityNashville, TN – With wind swirling on the pitch and clouds threatening to pour rain on the second first-round match of the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Soccer Tournament, Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team fell in an aggressive match against Southeast Missouri Friday night.

The Governors came out strong playing with the wind at their backs and controlling possession through the midfield.

APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team travels down I-24 to begin its postseason run against Southeast Missouri in the opening round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, 5:30pm, Friday in Nashville at E.S. Rose Park.

The Govs managed the must-win scenario Sunday with poise and confidence, scoring two second-half goals in the Governor victory versus Morehead State. The win secured Austin Peay the eighth seed in the OVC Tournament.
