Customs House Museum and Cultural Center Welcomes a New Era with the Grand Illumination

 

Customs House Museum & Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – One of the state’s most photographed structures, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center in Downtown Clarksville, will soon be as photogenic after dark as it has been in the daytime.

The Museum is adding a new feature to the historic 1898 Post Office and Customs House building that proudly graces the corner of South Second Street and Commerce Street.

Montgomery County Community urged to ring bells at noon August 18th

 

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – On Tuesday, August 18th, 2020, Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett and Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts want bells to ring out at noon in celebration of women’s voting rights.

The mayors have jointly proclaimed August 18th as “Tennessee Women’s Suffrage Centennial Day” in Clarksville and Montgomery County and request that churches and community members join in by ringing their bells to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Tennessee General Assembly’s historic ratification of the 19th Amendment.

Clarksville to dedicate ‘Tennessee Triumph’ Suffrage Statue on August 15th

 

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – Tennessee holds a special place in passing the 19th Amendment into law, extending voting rights to women.

We were the final state needed for ratification, and our legislators came through with a two-vote victory margin on August 18th, 1920, with the law becoming effective eight days later.

Notice to the Public given by Montgomery County Commission

 

Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – Notice is hereby given that any member of the public who would like to address the Montgomery County Commission regarding a zoning case, or for the budget public hearing, may come to the Montgomery County Courthouse training room on the first floor on June 1st at 5:00pm for the budget public hearing, and 6:00pm for zoning cases. 

Comments will start promptly at 5:00pm and 6:00pm, respectively, and are limited to three minutes.

Clarksville’s annual reading of The Declaration of Independence to be held July 4th

 

Annual reading of The Declaration of IndependenceClarksville, TN – On July 4th, 2019 at 9:00am, the annual reading of The Declaration of Independence will take place on the steps of the Montgomery County Courthouse located on North Second Street in Clarksville. The Clarksville-Montgomery County community is invited to attend this event in Downtown Clarksville.

“The Fourth of July is more than barbecues, fireworks and family gatherings,” said David Brockman, event organizer. “This isn’t a protest or political rally. The goal of this event is to remind us all that the holiday has a deeper symbolic meaning.”

USS LST-325 arrives in Clarksville Wednesday, September 6th

 

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – The USS LST-325, 328-foot-long landing ship tank, will arrive in Clarksville on Wednesday, September 6th, 2017. The ship’s arrival in Clarksville is one of the many activities that are part of Visit Clarksville’s Welcome Home Veterans Celebration.

The LST-325 will be open for tours beginning at 9:00a.m. on Thursday, September 7th through 5:00pm Friday, September 15th. The LST will depart from Clarksville on Saturday, September 16th, 2017.

Clarksville’s Welcome Home Veterans Parade set for September 16th

 

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – Clarksville’s third annual Welcome Home Veterans parade is scheduled for Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at 10:00am in historic downtown.

“Originally created to honor Vietnam Veterans, the parade now a tribute by Vietnam Veterans to all American Heroes. This is a day for families, friends and all citizens to salute the service and sacrifices made by America’s Military,” said Visit Clarksville Board Chairman Jerry Allbert.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Recertification Refresher Class at Agero

 

Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification ProgramMontgomery County, TN – On Tuesday, June 20th, Agero hosted the Clarksville-Montgomery County’s Green Certification Program’s refresher class. Thirty-one attendees representing many of the organizations that originally certified in 2013 and 2015 participated in the class.

The class reviewed the latest environmental concerns in our community, discussed the impacts on the environment, and shared their ideas and continued improvements within their own organizations.

Cannon to be unveiled in honor of Clarksville Rotary Club tomorrow

 

Montgomery County Government TennesseeClarksville, TN – On Friday, May 12th, 2017, to celebrate Rotary’s 100th Birthday, the Clarksville Rotary Club has purchased a new life-size cannon from Clarksville Foundry to replace the one moved to Fort Defiance from the Montgomery County Courthouse lawn. Montgomery County is proud to once again have the opportunity to display a cannon on our beautiful historic courthouse lawn.

As part of tomorrow’s cannon unveiling at 10:30am, the cannon will be fired. Downtown residents and businesses should be aware of the noise associated.
