Instant Peay Play: Eleven former APSU Govs continue to shine in pro baseball leagues as MLB All-Star week approaches

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With one week to go before Major League Baseball takes a pause for its annual mid-season All-Start Game, 11 former Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball players are still getting it done on pro baseball fields around America and in international leagues.

Currently, two former Govs pitchers Shawn Kelley (Texas Rangers) and Ryne Harper (Minnesota Twins) are on MLB rosters, with Kelley leading the team with 11 saves — as the team’s closer – while also having three wins in five decisions and a 2.79 ERA, while Harper has made the most of his first action in the majors in posting a 3-1 record with a save and a 2.97 ERA as a set-up man out of the bullpen.

Instant Peay Play: Several APSU Players could hear named called during MLB Draft

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – The dream of having a chance to play in the major leagues could become reality this week for several Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball players, with the 2019 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft running June 3rd through June 5th in Secaucus, NJ.

The APSU Govs have a long history in the draft — dating back to the Govs first draft selection in the 1972 draft, Tim Burns, who went in the second round — and this year’s 40-round draft should be no different.

2017-18 Top-10 — No. 7: APSU’s Michael Costanzo, Jacques Pucheu dominate on the mound

APSU Sports Information

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – What’s better than one dominant, flame-throwing left-handed APSU pitcher who struck out more than a batter per inning?

How about two?

Because that’s just what Austin Peay enjoyed in its weekend rotation this season, as Michael Costanzo and Jacques Pucheu became the Ohio Valley Conference’s best one-two punch, becoming just the second and third players in Austin Peay history with 100 strikeouts in a single season.

Colby Wilson’s Atlanta Braves Report: Arms Racing

Atlanta BravesClarksville, TN – As I’m writing this, the Braves are imploding against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Actually, that’s not an accurate assessment of the situation. The Braves bullpen took a three-run lead into the bottom of the seventh on Wednesday night in Tampa and turned it into a three-run deficit in about four seconds. Matt Marksberry is looking, well, like a guy who was in A-ball to start the season—no shame on him either, that’s just what the situation calls for now.

It’s not fair to him that he has to play above his ski’s right now, but there’s just not much left in the cupboard. No Jason Grilli. No Jim Johnson. No Luis Avilan. If Arodys Vizcaino and Andrew McKirahan are the class of your bullpen, that doesn’t speak volumes so much as shout them, Lewis Black-style, from a mountaintop of crap, inexperience and ineptitude.
