City to launch massive volunteer effort this weekend

Tomorrow morning, May 16th, 150 volunteers from throughout the community and Grace Community Church will assist families in the clean-up and recovery process. 75 volunteers will centralize in the Woodstock subdivision. 75 more volunteers will head to other areas of the community.

Volunteers and organizers will meet at a location on Memorial Drive at 9:00 am for a safety briefing and will then head to flood-stricken neighborhoods. Each volunteer will be furnished with protective masks. They have been asked to bring their own sunscreen and boots. The Salvation Army has offered to provide food and drinks for the volunteers.

This group of volunteers was organized through the City’s volunteer partner, Community Action Agency. So far, 1,058 local volunteers have offered their assistance in flood recovery efforts. The agency has also had many offers of support from individuals and businesses across the country.
