ANSF, Task Force Bastogne begin operations in Shawan Ghar Valley

BastogneFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionNangarhar Province, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces partnered with the Soldiers assigned to 1st Brigade Combat Team, Task Force Bastogne, 101st Airborne Division, to begin operations in the Shawan Ghar Valley of the Lal Por District February 3rd.

The combined forces, which included Afghan National Army soldiers, Afghan National Civil Order Police and Afghan Border Police officers, began clearing operations of several villages throughout the valley of insurgent fighters.

“Gov. Sherzai, the Nangarhar provincial governor, requested security forces conduct operations in the area to reinforce security in the border region,” explained U.S. Army Lt. Col. James Sisemore, commander of 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st BCT, 101st Abn. Div. “I am confident in our Afghan partners, that together, we can accomplish the mission the governor has given us. We will continue to disrupt the insurgents that target the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and threaten the security of Lal Por District.”

“We have seen the success of our soldiers in recent operations, to include Sherzad District, and we are confident in our ability to restore order to this important part of Nangarhar,” said ANA Maj. Shirin Agha, 2nd Infantry Brigade, 201st Corps public affairs officer.

Operations are ongoing.
