Austin Peay State University GovernorsFrankfort, KY – Junior Geofrey Kosgei posted his season’s first victory and Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team had all five runners post top-10 finishes for its season’s first victory, Friday, at the Thorobreds Stampede hosted by Kentucky State.

Last week junior Geofrey Kosgei ran what head coach Doug Molnar called his best race of the season. He topped that performance with a winning time of 29:41.46 over the eight-kilometer distance. The victory was also the first individual victory for a Govs runner this season.

Following Kosgei was sophomore Christian Kepley in second place (30:58.71), sophomore Gennaro Martinez in third place (31:36.54), Konner Kessler in fifth place (32:42.51), and freshman David Frattarelli placed ninth (33:44.12).

After losing to every other Ohio Valley Conference member at last week’s Greater Louisville Cross Classic, the Governors defeated their only other OVC competition, Tennessee State finishing a team average 1:43 faster than TSU.

The Govs will hit the course again next Saturday at the Fast Cats Classic in Owensboro, KY before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships October 25th.
