Austin Peay Governors to face two Top 25 Foes in Non-Conference Basketball Schedule

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s basketball team will play a pair of Top 25 teams in their non-conference schedule this fall.

ESPN/USA Today released its coaches poll, Thursday, and the Govs’ 2011-12 second opponent (November 15th), California, enters the season ranked No. 24 after posting a 17-14 record a year ago, but return 6-6 forward Harper Kamp and guard Jorge Gutierrez, both who averaged 14.3 ppg a year ago. The Govs will play the Bears as part of the College Basketball Experience.

Nearly a month later, December 10th, the Governors will travel to Memphis to play the No. 9 Tigers at FedEx Forum. The Tigers are coming off a 25-10 2010-11 season that included a 70-68 overtime victory against the Governors.

The Tigers, who a year ago had what was considered the nation’s top recruiting class, followed with another strong recruiting class that features McDonald’s All-America Adonis Thomas, a 6-7, 220-pound forward.

Tyshwan EdmondsonThe Governors are coming off a 20-14 season that included an appearance in the College Basketball Invitational.

APSU returns four starters, including senior All-Ohio Valley Conference guard TyShwan Edmondson (17.1 PPG), senior forward Josh Terry (11.0 ppg) and senior center John Fraley (9.6 ppg, 7.4 rpg). The Govs also return forward Anthony Campbell, who was a second-team All-OVC selection in 2009-10 before incurring a knee injury a year ago.
