Nashville Sounds power by the Round Round Express 3-1

Nashville Sounds Baseball

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Mark Rogers turned in a solid start and Eric Farris belted a two-run homer to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 3-1 victory over the Round Rock Express on Monday evening at Greer Stadium in the opener of a four-game series.

Rogers (5-6) continued his dominant pitching in home contests, holding the Express to one run on four hits over seven innings of work — his fifth quality start of the year. He struck out six batters while walking only one during his 99-pitch effort.

With the solid effort, the right-hander improved to 3-2 with a 2.98 ERA (16er/48.1ip) in his nine starts at Greer this year (2-4, 7.07 in eight road outings).

Nashville pitchers combined to hold Round Rock to only four hits while striking out 10 batters in the contest.

The Sounds got on the board in the second when Andy Gonzalez and Taylor Green led off the frame with consecutive doubles against Round Rock starter Ben Snyder.

Second baseman Eric Farris (2-for-4) upped the Nashville lead to 3-0 in the third when he slugged his second home run of the year, a two-run shot to left off Snyder. Catcher Dayton Buller (2-for-3), who led off the inning with an opposite-field double to right-center, also scored on the one-out blast.

Round Rock jumped on the board in the seventh with a two-out rally against Rogers. After the first two batters were retired, Joey Butler reached on an infield single and raced around to score when Ryan Spilborghs ripped an RBI double to deep right-center to make it a 3-1 contest.

Jesus Sanchez worked a perfect eighth for the Sounds before closer Jim Henderson struck out the side in the ninth to nail down his 12th save of the season.

Snyder (2-4) drew the loss for the Express after allowing all three Nashville runs in his five innings of work.

Outfielder Caleb Gindl went 0-for-4 to snap the Sounds’ longest active hitting streak at six games.

The teams continue the series with another 7:05pm meeting on Tuesday. Right-hander Brian Baker (2-3, 5.33) returns to the Nashville rotation with his first start for the Sounds since June 29th. Round Rock will counter with right-hander Greg Reynolds (7-6, 5.01).
