APSU Lady Govs Basketball named OVC Team Sportsmanship Award recipient

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team has received the Ohio Valley Conference Team Sportsmanship Award for the 2013-14 season, the league announced Friday.

Voted on by the student-athletes and coaches of the respective sports, the team awards are bestowed upon those Conference squads deemed to have best exhibited the standards of sportsmanship and ethical behavior as outlined by the OVC and NCAA.

Included in the areas for evaluation are the conduct of student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators and fans.

This season’s honor is the first for the Lady Govs basketball program in the ninth season the sportsmanship honors have been awarded.

“Every day we attempt to instill within our student-athletes, staff and community how to represent Austin Peay State University and the Ohio Valley Conference in a first-class manner,” said Austin Peay head coach Carrie Daniels. “My team and the staff at Austin Peay appreciate this honor and the recognition from our fellow student-athletes and coaches.”

Austin Peay finished the 2013-14 season with a 6-10 conference mark and finished fourth the the league’s West Division. Freshman Tearra Banks was named to the league’s all-newcomer squad.
