Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team, coming off a week where it won five of six contests, hopes to carry that momentum into an Ohio Valley Conference three-game weekend road series at Southeast Missouri State University.
Austin Peay (14-15, 3-3 OVC) opens the conference series Saturday with a doubleheader versus the Redhawks, starting at 1:00pm, and concluding on Sunday with a single game – also scheduled to begin at 1:00pm.Southeast Missouri (6-16 1-3 OVC) comes into the series having struggled of late, losing nine of its last 10 games, but did come away with an OVC win last Saturday at Eastern Kentucky University, 5-3.
Offensively, Austin Peay is led by senior Lauren de Castro’s .427 batting average, which includes seven doubles, five home runs and a team-best 19 RBIs.
Also coming off strong week at the plate are senior Kayla Davidson, who posted a .400 batting average last week, with two doubles, a triple and a home run.
Junior Laurel Burroughs and sophomore Marissa Lake – who was seeing her first action of the season after missing the first month-plus recovering from an injury – both hit at a .368 clip last week, while fifth-year senior Kristin Whitmire hit .313 and senior Amanda De Vries .300.
The Redhawks are led by Savannah Carpenter’s .444 batting average, including five doubles, a triple and four home runs. She also had 16 RBI’s.
Haylee Krack is also having a solid start for SEMO, coming into the weekend hitting .277, with four doubles and a team-best five home runs. She has 14 RBIs.
In the circle, de Castro tops the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 9-6 win-loss mark, with a 3.46 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 81 innings of work.
Freshmen Sidney Hooper (3-2, 4.36 ERA) and Brianna Bartuccio (2-7, 5.68 ERA) have the other APSU wins this season.
Southeast Missouri have three pitchers that have split its three wins so far this season, with Hannah Durham coming in with a 2-4 mark and a 3.83 ERA, followed by Aubrey Denno (2-7, 7.00 ERA) and Keaira Schilling (2-5, 5.57 ERA).
