Kenwood Knights Football earn First District Win over West Creek Coyotes 31-14

Kenwood High SchoolClarksville, TN – The battle of Peachers Mill Road between the Kenwood Knights and the West Creek Coyotes took place Friday night at West Creek High School. The battle looked even early, but turned into a route as the Knights galloped to a 31-14 win.

It was the first District 10-AAA matchup for both teams and ended up as the Knights (1-2) first win of the season.

The Knights ground game overwhelmed the Coyotes. Running back A.J. Richardson and quarterback Malcolm Perry took turns spinning, dashing and pounding their way down the field to the end zone. Richardson rushed for over 100 yards with two touchdowns. Perry also had over 100 yards rushing with one touchdown on the ground and two more in the air.

The Knights defense supported the offense well by smothering the Coyotes run game and producing three turnovers.

With their running game stifled, the Coyotes had to rely on an air attack and their junior quarterback Jordan Justice did his best to deliver.

Justice threw for over 200 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. In the first quarter, Justice threaded the needle to Zeandre Floyd who sprinted 65 yards to the end zone for the first touchdown of the game. Unfortunately for the Coyotes, it would be their only score until the last minute of the game.

After the Coyote’s first strike, the Knights methodically charged down the field and tied the game with a 3-yard touchdown run. They then went on to score 18 unanswered points in the second and third quarters.

Perry scored the Knights second touchdown. He capped of a 7 play, 65-yard drive in the second quarter with a 9-yard scramble to the end zone to make the score 13-7. Perry threw a 27-yard bomb to Richardson later in the second to give the Knights a 19-7 lead at halftime.

After intercepting the ball to end the Coyotes first drive of the third quarter, it took the Knights only five plays to score again. Perry threw his second touchdown, this time for 29 yards.

The Knights last score was a 4-yard run by Richardson at 8:54 in the fourth quarter.

Despite being under duress, including being sacked three times in the second half, Justice continued to make plays with his feet and arm. He completed 7 of 11 pass attempts in the second half. But dropped passes and a second interception kept the Coyotes off the score board until their last drive in the last minute of the game.

Justice completed a quick slant pass to Demari Moore who broke a tackle and ran to the end zone with 55 seconds left in the game.

It was the Coyotes second loss in a row, dropping them to 1-2. Next they will stay at home to play the Summit Spartans (0-3).

The Knights will be looking to get their second win at Glen cliff (0-3) next week.
