The meet gets underway Friday, with the pole vault at 6:00pm (ET); Saturday’s festivities begin at 9:00am with the high jump.

For a new event, this meet offers a wide array of high-quality competition.

In addition to Austin Peay and host Marshall, athletes from Western Carolina, Dayton, Ohio, Duquesne, UNC Charlotte and West Virginia, among others, will be in attendance. The Ohio Valley Conference also will be represented by Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State.

Austin Peay figures heavily into the 11-heat 200m dash event, with 11 runners scheduled to compete for the Lady Govs. Junior Kymmalett Ross, the OVC leader in the event this season, will be joined by classmate Breigh Jones (fourth) and freshman Sonja White, who finished fourth in the event at last weekend’s Gladstein Invitational.

Senior Jessica Gray hopes to chip away at the six-second deficit she faces in the OVC 800m standings. Although EKU’s Carina Schrempf, the conference leader, will not compete in the 800m this week, Gray will be up against the Colonels’ Ann Eason, who leads the conference in the mile and 3000m events.

Saturday will be a big day for freshman Allysha Scott. With Terri Morris getting the weekend off, Scott will replace her in Austin Peay’s top 4x400m relay group, joining Jones, Ross and Gray against a strong field led by Southern Conference-leading Western Carolina.

The second flight of the triple jump will be the one to keep an eye on for Austin Peay. Not only will sophomores Kaylnn Pitts and Chancis Jones be looking to improve on their current OVC standing – second and third, respectively – they will do so against a tough field featuring Western Carolina’s Tiffani Lewis (third in the Southern Conference), Northern Kentucky’s DeMondrea Starnes (fourth in the Atlantic Sun) and West Virginia’s Shamoya McNeil (eighth in the the Big 12).

Austin Peay continues its indoor campaign next weekend at the SIU Invitational in Carbondale, IL.
