APSU Women's Tennis - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s women’s tennis team clashed with the Belmont Bruins, Saturday, at the Governors Tennis Center and pulled out their fifth Ohio Valley Conference win of the season.

The Govs (6-9, 5-4 OVC) had a rough start to the match, dropping two matches to give Belmont (2-14, 0-8 OVC).

Oklahoma City flirts with no-hitter in win

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds put together a small rally in the bottom of the ninth inning only to see it fall short in a 2-1 loss to the Oklahoma City Dodgers in front of 5,122 fans at First Tennessee Park Saturday night.

Trailing 2-0 and without a hit, Sounds (1-2) third baseman Renato Nunez started the home half of the ninth with a double down the right field line. Catcher Bruce Maxwell followed with a sharp single up the middle to score Nunez and trim the lead to 2-1.

A sacrifice bunt by Tyler Ladendorf moved pinch-runner Matt McBride to second, but the rally stopped there when Joey Wendle and Andrew Lambo struck out.

The match was Austin Peay State University’s final home contest, with its home court advantage proving to be important in conference play.

Clarksville Nationals Little League Opening Ceremony, honor Detective Tyler Barrett

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Today April 9th at 11:00pm, the Clarksville Nationals Little League had its opening ceremony led by the League President, Jason York.

Today they honored Detective Tyler Barrett with a field memorial sign, a check for “Shop with a Cop,” as well as honoring the Clarksville Police Department and the Police Union with a plaque bearing the inscription, “He left us better than he found us.”

Tyler began his career with the CPD in 1994, and he passed away in November of last year (2015). He was a Detective for the last 11 years of his career.

APSU Baseball Govs hold off Southeast Missouri Redhawks for 8-6 win

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team scored the game’s first six runs then held on late to claim an 8-6 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Southeast Missouri, Saturday afternoon at Raymond C. Hand Park. The Govs clinch the three-game league set with the win, Game 3 to be played at 1:00pm, Sunday.

After three scoreless frames, Austin Peay (18-11, 10-4 OVC) got on the scoreboard first with a two-run fourth inning.

APSU Women's Golf - Austin Peay State UniversityMurray, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s golf coach Sara Robson believes her team is heading into the Ohio Valley Conference, April 18th-20th, with momentum after her club finished tied for fourth, Saturday, at the Jan Weaver Invitational, played at Miller Memorial Golf Course.

Again fighting some difficult conditions, APSU shot its second straight 317 to finish at 952 (318-317-317), tying it with Southern Illinois.

APSU University Archives and Special Collections now houses copy of rare Pembroke Collection coin archive

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Thomas Herbert, 8th Earl of Pembroke, was a great many things during his life. A British statesman during the reigns of King William III and Queen Anne, Herbert served, at different times, as First Lord of the Admiralty, Lord High Admiral of the Royal Navy and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.

In his private life, Herbert was also a prolific collector, amassing a vast array of, among other things, works of art and classical sculpture.

Clarksville Citizens testify before House Local Government Committee

Tennessee State Representative - District 68Nashville, TN – Three citizens from Clarksville testified before the House Local Government Committee this week urging support for House Bill 2156 which helps restore some property tax relief for disabled veterans. There are currently several bills dealing with Property Tax Relief for veterans.

“I support these bills, and feel strongly that some tax relief will be funded in the 2016-17 budget,” Tennessee State Representative Curtis Johnson said.

Ms. Sherry Pickering with the Montgomery County Veterans Coalition was first to testify. Also adding their expertise were Brenda Radford, Montgomery County Trustee, and Bill Summers, legislative representative for the Military Officer Association of American and a retired Air Force Officer.
