After a corner, Claire Larose poked home a loose ball inside the box to equalize just two minutes later.

Freshman Delanie McKeon had the best chance for the Govs in the first half, but sent her shot over the bar as halftime came with the teams deadlocked at one.

The second half started quickly in terms of action, as McKenzie Dixon netted the go-ahead goal for the Govs inside four minutes of the start of the second half. Dixon then added her second goal later on in the half off an assist from Morgan Drawdy. Freshman Gwynevere Cardinal scored her first collegiate goal after a mistake by the Mississippi Valley goalkeeper to seal the win for the Govs.

“We had a messy first half, the surface was not great and we did not adapt our play quick enough,” said Governors head coach Naomi Kolarova. “In the second half we cleaned it up, changed our style of play, and managed to put away a few goals. It’s tough to step on the field after a seven hour trip so it took us a little while to get going, but we eventually finished opportunities and found a way to win.”

The Govs are back in action Sunday against West Alabama for a road exhibition starting at noon.
