Clarksville Urban MinistriesClarksville, TN – After a month-long search, Clarksville resident CC Carmack-Wheeler has been named Executive Director of Clarksville Urban Ministries. Carmack-Wheeler steps into the role previously held by Beverly Dycus, who resigned due to health issues in October.

Carmack-Wheeler was chosen from dozens of applicants and brings a wealth of experience to the position.

In addition to working with Urban Ministries for the past two years, and Director of Safe Place for the past year, she is well known for her nearly 20 years of professional experience in broadcast media and fundraising.

As Executive Director, Carmack-Wheeler will be responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plans of the organization, in addition to fundraising, marketing, and community outreach.

Sandra Simms, Urban Ministries’ Board of Directors Vice Chair, says that the relationships Carmack-Wheeler has built throughout the community, along with her proven success working with Urban Ministries, made her a great fit for the position.

“We’re excited to benefit from CC’s familiarity with local resources, and – most importantly – her passion for the position,” Simms said.

In a prepared statement, Carmack-Wheeler noted that Urban Ministries has been serving “neighbors in need” for more than 34 years. “We are funded solely by grants and donations. I intend to show our community the value of supporting Urban Ministries financially, and how those local dollars benefit local people in need,” she said.

Officially designed as a clearing-house for emergency assistance and chartered as a non-profit corporation in 1984, Urban Ministries quickly grew to become an ecumenical community-wide service agency offering direct client assistance.

Urban Ministries is comprised of three separate programs: Grace Assistance, the Safe House Shelter, and Safe Place. Grace Assistance provides food, shelter, utility assistance, clothing, emergency shelter, prescription medications, and transportation to those in need.

The Safe House Shelter offers safe harbor for victims of domestic violence. Safe Place, in operation for two years, houses four homeless families at a time. The three programs operate with the assistance of approximately 42 volunteers who last year donated more than 5,000 hours to the agency.

Urban Ministries collaborates and partners with United Way, City of Clarksville, Salvation Army, Loaves and Fishes, Empty Bowls, local churches, and other philanthropic organizations in our community.
