The Governors took a break from Ohio Valley Conference to travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats. On the defensive side, the Govs were once again led by their senior captains Renee Semaan and Mary Parker Powell.

Coming off a week where she took home Ohio Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honors, Mary Parker Powell posted her season’s second shutout and the 11th of her career.

For the second time in the last seven days, Mary Parker Powell posted a shutout for the Governors. The senior keeper made four saves as the Govs and kept the Bearcats off the board for the entire 110 minute double-overtime contest.

The Governor defense has been solid over the last three games, only allowing 2 goals in 310 minutes. Led by the reigning OVC Defensive Player of the Week Renee Seeman, the defensive unit has limited the pressure on Mary Parker Powell in net.

On thn the offensive end the Governors have seen the offensive come to life since their return from Colorado. Over the last three games, the Govs have put 50 percent of their shots on goal, including four of nine shots in Saturday’s draw. Morgan Drawdy led the way offensively with two shots, both of which were on goal. Ashley Whittaker and Anna McPhie added one shot on goal apiece, but none of the Governors were able to best the Cincinnati keeper.

APSU Coach Naomi Kolarova Thoughts

Opening Remarks
“The team had another solid 110 minute battle and worked hard the entire time. I can’t fault work rate or desire, it was there from all of them tonight. We’ve had two games in double OT this weekend & they have stepped up and performed really well against some top competition. I’m very proud of that fight and I am sure if we continue to play like this, it’ll lead to wins in conference play.”

On the Gov’s senior captains
“I think our senior captain Renee Semaan anchoring our defense is such an important piece of the puzzle for us right now. She comes up big in so many situations & did so again tonight. Mary Parker in goal has done a tremendous job of keeping our defense organized, she’s protected the net well the past few games and has a commanding presence on the field that our team totally trusts. Our other defenders are finding their confidence the further into season we get and it’s showing with us conceding less lately.”

On the offense
“Offensively we have a number of players getting forward and cracking shots. Again our shots on goal was near or at 50% plus. That has been goal we’ve had these past few games, so we are being smart and purposeful with our shots. I hope that trend continues in OVC play.”

Final Thoughts
“Overall I am very happy. It’s good to have a strong showing against such a good team. It’s a big confidence boost for our girls as we fully get into conference play now. We are ready for the home games next weekend and I hope we can carry this positive energy into OVC play.”
