Austin Peay State University Women’s Cross Country’s Emmaculate Kiplagat finishes Second at at Murray State Open

APSU Women's Cross CountryMurray, KY – Reigning Ohio Valley Conference Runner of the Week Emmaculate Kiplagat continued her stellar running as Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s cross country team finish their 2019 regular season at the Murray State Open, Friday evening.

The Austin Peay State University placed third as a team, and Kiplagat finished second overall among individuals with a time of 19:33.6.

“Emma had a really good day,” said Austin Peay head coach Valerie Brown. “She was very aggressive and competitive and was excited about the plan Coach (Sarah-Emily) Woodward put in place for her.

“Murray had a very tough course. Felt like it was a little bit tougher where the OVC Championship will be with the number of hills that they have throughout the course. But overall, I thought our ladies competed very well today.”

Keleah Shell finished second among Governors and secured a top-15 finish with the time of 21:38.5 (15th). The duo of Molly Howard and Larin Harr were only two spots behind Shell. Howard finished first between the two and placed 17th with a time of 21:50.0. Harr finished in exactly seven seconds from Howard and finished 18th (21:57.0).

Sara Martin secured a top-20 finish for herself when she clocked 21:58.8 (20th). Mikaela Smith finished with another top-25 finish for the season after she placed 25th with the time of 22:30.4. Alura Endres rounded off the remaining points for the Governors when she timed at 23:33.1 (29th).

Emily Woodard ran in her first meet since the season opener at Belmont and timed 23:34.8 (30th).

“Having Emily back for her first race after being out for a while was pretty good, and we were pleased,” Brown said.

 

Next Up For APSU Women’s Cross Country

Your Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team will prepare the next two weeks for the Ohio Valley Conference Championship in Edwardsville, Indiana November 2nd.
