Clarksville’s Bashaara Graves leads Tennessee Lady Vols at NCAA Tournament Sweet 16

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The Tennessee Lady Vols, the #1 seed in the Louisville Regional, has advanced to the 2014 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, and will host Maryland on Sunday afternoon.

Tip-off is set for noon in the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville Kentucky.

This is Tennessee’s fifth-straight and 32nd overall NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, and the third year in a row for Maryland.

APSU Lady Govs Basketball loses 108-53 to Louisville Cardinals

 

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSULouisville, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team had few answers in a 108-53 loss to No. 7 Louisville, Saturday, at the KFC YUM! Center.

Austin Peay (3-6) challenged Louisville early, junior Kristen Stainback scoring five straight points to cap a 7-2 run that gave APSU a 7-6 lead 2:28 into the contest.

APSU Lady Govs Basketball’s Tearra Banks named OVC Freshman of the Week

 

Ohio Valley Conference - OVCClarksville, TN – Freshman center Tearra Banks made an impact on the court during previous three games for the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team and was rewarded as the Ohio Valley Conference’s Freshman of the Week, Tuesday.

Banks, of Louisville, KY, averaged 13 points and six rebounds in the last three games for Austin Peay. She began the week with a modest eight-point, two-rebound performance at Southern Illinois, last Tuesday.

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSULouisville, KY – Led by senior Xiamar Richards’ third consecutive runner-up finish, Austin Peay State University women’s cross-country team finished fourth overall in the women’s five-kilometer blue race at Saturday’s Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic, hosted by Louisville at E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park.

Road Trip: No plans, no destination part 3

 

This is the final installment of a series of stories documenting a recent trip I made with my wife.  We packed an overnight bag and decided to drive.  No plans, no destination.  We were going to stay on the back roads and see what we could see.

We decided we would land in Louisville Kentucky for the night.  I had performed at a comedy club there once, and I spent the afternoon on Bardstown Road.  I knew that I needed to take her there because she would fall in love with all the shops, restaurants, boutiques and “personality” that just jumps out at you.  For those of us in Clarksville, Bardstown road is like several miles of our Franklin Street.  It’s awesome. «Read the rest of this article»

Trip to Muhammad Ali Center inspires youth

 

Muhammad Ali Center Louisville KentuckyLasting Improvements For Excellence Inc. (LIFE), and its founder Mr. Kenneth Albritton took 29 kids from Lincoln Homes and neighborhoods around the city and, on a field trip to the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville Kentucky.

Van transportation to the center was provided by Faith Mission Ministries Church Clarksville, Pastors Harold and Gwen Browning. The trip was also made possible by the generous donations and support from Leonard and Michael Tharpe from Brandon Technologies Incorporated, Tennessee State Representative Joe Pitts, the local chapter of the Triple Nickel, Tennessee State Senator Tim Barnes, Terry & Wanda McMoore of the Urban Resource Center, Vision Construction Company, Sergeant Major Sidney Brown, along with several anonymous donors.

In a letter to the parents Mr. Kenneth Albritton reminded them of the accomplishments of Muhammad Ali, and stressed the mission statement of his organization LIFE. «Read the rest of this article»
