Austin Peay (3-9) converted on just two of its first nine shot attempts and fell into a seven-point, 11-4, hole a little more than four minutes into the game. The Lady Govs would get baskets from sophomore Tiasha Gray and freshman Beth Rates to trim that deficit to three points, 11-8, one minute later.

Moments later, Omaha (7-5) put together an 12-4 burst – converting on four of five shot attempts – to push the lead into double-digit territory, 24-14, for the first time at the 8:54 mark. The Mavericks lead would hover near the 10-point mark for the next five minutes until they closed the half with a 13-3 run over the final 3:38 to take a 42-26 lead into halftime.

Austin Peay came out of the halftime break with a renewed energy, piecing together a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 12 points in less than three minutes. However, they would get no closer the game’s remainder.

Omaha countered the early burst with the game’s next seven points, pushing its lead to 19 points three minutes later and would not be threatened again. The Mavericks lead would briefly reach 22 points, 69-47, with 2:53 remaining before Austin Peay reeled the margin back to the final 16-point spread.

The Lady Govs offense was stymied against the Mavericks, shooting just 30.8 percent (20-of-65) for the game, including just 14.3 percent (4-of-28) from three-point range. Defensively, Austin Peay held Omaha to 37.3 percent shooting (25-of-67), but surrendered a 33.3 percent (8-of-24) effort from three-point range.

Freshman Beth Rates led Austin Peay with her first career double-double – a 12-point, 11-rebound performance. Freshman Tearra Banks added 10 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Jacey Scott chipped in a nine-point, five-assist, four-rebound outing.

Omaha’s Ericka House led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-22 shooting, including 6-of-14 from three-point range. Taijhe Kelley posted a 13-point, 11-rebound, six-block performance.

Austin Peay will take the upcoming week off for the Christmas Holiday. The Lady Govs return to action in eight days in an 11:30am, December 30th contest at Mississippi.
