Austin Peay State University (APSU)
Martin, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) beach volleyball team finished its road slate, Wednesday afternoon, with a doubleheader sweep against UT Martin, 4-1, 3-2.
In the No. 5 pairing, MiMi Arrington and Caroline Waite went into a three-set finish against Gintar Mackeviciute and Lindsey Geurin.
Waite and Arrington snagged the first set, 21-15, and edged out the Skyhawks, 15-12, in the decisive third set.
In the No. 3 pairing, Ginny Gerig and Cori Theiss defeated the Skyhawks’ Megan Fair and Justine Walker in straight sets, 21-17, 21-19. Ciera Koons and Brooke Moore defeated Kenzie Hinshaw and Karen Scanlon in straight sets, 21-16, 21-13, while Jenna Panning and Haley Turner stayed in the No. 1 pairing for another week and picked up another win against Brooke Gyori and Hannah Phillips in straight sets, 21-14, 21-19.
Match Two got underway and featured a little bit of a shakeup in the lineup. Theiss moved from the No. 3 pairing to the No. 4 pairing to join Lucy Randall, and they defeated UT Martin’s Conley and Reynolds in straight sets, 21-18, 21-17.
Moore and Koons in the No. 2 pairing took care of business against the Skyhawks’ Hinshaw and Scanlon in straight sets, 21-12, 21-15. Turner and Panning dominated in the No. 1 pairing against Gyori and Phillips of UT Martin, winning in straight sets, 21-7, 21-15, to give the Govs the victory in Match Two.
The Governors (12-12) improved their record to .500 for the first time this season before heading home to host the Governors Beach Bash. The home event will begin at noon, Friday, against Lincoln Memorial and will end with a match against Georgia State at 5:00pm, Saturday.
