In as many months as there are candidates from the last election, the Afghans went to the voting booths to decide who will become their country’s next top official. It winds through mountains and tree-lined villages and shoots across broad, arid spaces the same as any other paved road in the region. A Message from Maj. Gen. James McConville, Commander of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell
Through the fall of the Taliban and the Bonn Conference in December 2001; endorsement of the Afghan Constitution in 2004; and two periods of national level elections between 2004 and 2009 the Government, Security Forces, and the people of Afghanistan developed, and continue to develop, as a democratic nation, absent the oppression of the Taliban Regime. Reflecting on this evolution during our American Independence Day, I cannot help but wonder if there any similarities between the experience of the people of Afghanistan and us.

Fort Campbell Currahees uncase colors in AfghanistanWritten by U.S. Army Sgt. Justin Moeller Khowst Province, Afghanistan – The 4th Brigade Combat Team “Currahees”, 101st Airborne Division, participated in a transfer of authority ceremony held at Forward Operating Base Salerno, Afghanistan, May 22nd. The ceremony featured the casing of the 3rd BCT “Rakkasan”, 101st Abn. Div., colors and the uncasing of the Currahee colors. Fort Campbell’s 1st Brigade Combat Team Bulldogs assist ANSF to secure Wazir ValleyWritten by U.S. Army Sgt. Jon Heinrich Jalalabad Airfield, Afghanistan – U.S. Army Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, recently completed a five day mission, titled OQUAAB XI, with their Afghan National Security Forces partners March 27th–31st, in the Wazir Valley of the Khogyani District, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.
