Defending champion Murray State was tabbed to repeat, with 70 total points on the ballot.

Eastern Kentucky, finished with 64 points and earned second place in the vote. Morehead State (53 points), UT Martin (49) and SIU Edwardsville (47) rounded out the top five.

Just 20 points separate the Lady Govs from the sixth spot – the OVC takes the top six to the conference tournament at year’s end – in the conference poll. Jacksonville State (44 points) took that prized spot in the preseason poll, with Eastern Illinois (39), Austin Peay (25), Southeast Missouri (24), Belmont (16) and Tennessee State (8) following.

“I think we’re better than that, to be honest,” said head coach Ross Brown. “We need to keep improving but I think we’re moving in the right direction.”

Senior Ornella Di Salvo also found a spot on the preseason top-10 player rankings, coming in at No. 9 in a vote of conference coaches. UT Martin’s Hitomi Naito was tabbed as the top player, with the Skyhawks, Eastern Kentucky and Murray State each placing two players among the top 10.

The Lady Govs, which own a 1-7 record, return to action with a 2:00pm, Saturday match at Kennesaw State.
