Newt Gingrich defends his $2.50 gas price plan in Tennessee on the Steve Gill Show

The Steve Gill ShowNashville, TN – Appearing today on the Nashville-based nationally syndicated Steve Gill Show Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich defended his plan to promote energy policies that would get the price of gasoline back down to $2.50 a gallon.

“This is not the only issue I talk about,” Gingrich noted, “I talk about foreign policy and having no apologies for America; I talk about having a tax code that would let you have a 15% flat tax as an option…and revising the capital gains tax to generate hundreds of billions of dollars in new investment; replacing the environmental protection agency with the environmental solutions agency; protecting Second Amendment rights…. But this [gasoline price] issue is a big issue and if you are a working American or a retired American and live in a state where you have to drive long distances, like here in Tennessee, it is a huge issue.”

Appearing on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday Washington Post Columnist George Will termed Gingrich’s claim that the American people have a right to demand $2.50 a gallon gasoline to be “economic nonsense.”  “I don’t understand guys like George Will,” Gingrich responded. “I agree with Will if he means you can’t just have one issue, but to suggest that the Obama failure on energy and the degree to which the Obama Administration is dedicated to $9.00 or $10.00 a gallon gasoline…and the absurdity of the President saying algae is going to be one of our solutions. Give me a break.” Gingrich outlined the details of his $2.50 plan in detail on the show and is campaigning in Nashville and other locations in Tennessee today and tomorrow.
