APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – A seven-run seventh inning catapulted the Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball team to a 18-11 victory against Evansville, Sunday, in the final day of the SAF Dirt Classic on Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park.

APSU Softball falls to Georgia, 8-0

 

APSU SoftballAthens, GA – A five-run inning by nationally ranked Georgia put the Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball team into an early hole it couldn’t dig out of, Sunday at Jack Turner Stadium on the final day of the 17th Annual Georgia Classic, as the Govs fell to the Bulldogs, 8-0.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball gets 67-63 win over Vanderbilt

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team held off in-state rival Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon, winning in Thompson-Boling Arena, 67-63.
 
Junior forward Rennia Davis led Tennessee (18-9, 8-6 SEC), posting a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Jordan Horston was close behind with 16 points, while sophomore forward Rae Burrell finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.
 
Chelsie Hall and Mariella Fasoula were the high scorers for Vanderbilt (13-14, 3-11 SEC) with 20 and 18, respectively.

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry named FedEx Ground Player of the Year

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry finished 2019 with a league-high 1,540 yards on 303 rushing attempts (4.8 avg.). His 16 rushing touchdowns put him in a tie with Green Bay Packers’s Aaron Jones atop the league leaderboard and placed second in franchise annals.

Over the final six weeks of the regular season plus three playoff appearances, Henry totaled seven 100-yard games.

Outstanding 2019 Austin Peay State University Football season honored at Night of Champions

 

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) football players, coaches, alumni and fans gathered Friday night to celebrate the historic 2019 season at the Night of Champions in the Dunn Center.

This event put the final bow on a campaign that yielded the program’s first Ohio Valley Conference title since 1977, its first-ever FCS Playoff appearance and resulting trip to the quarterfinals, as well as the program’s first consensus All-American since 2002 and myriad Coach of the Year accolades for the architect of the success, head coach Mark Hudspeth.

APSU Softball falls to James Madison, defeats Central Michigan at Georgia Classic

 

APSU SoftballAthens, GA –  Shelby Harpe threw a two-hit complete game and Katelyn Smith hit first collegiate home run to help lead the Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball team past Central Michigan, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Jack Turner Stadium, in Day 2 of the 17th Annual Georgia Classic, after dropping their morning contest to No. 21 nationally ranked James Madison, 8-0.

Nashville Predators defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets in shoot-out victory 4-3

 

Nashville PredatorsNashville, TN – The Nashville Predators hold on to defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets in a shoot-out, 4-3.  Rocco Grimaldi scored the decisive goal in the 8th round of the shoot-out for the win.

The Predators were coming off of a tough loss last night in Chicago and blew an early two goal lead to hang on for the win.  Columbus fought a valiant fight, considering that half of their team is on injured reserve.

Ryan Johansen and Mikael Granlund gave the Predators a 2-0 lead after the first period, with Johansen scoring just 33 seconds into the contest, while Granlund extended the Nashville lead at 10:31.

The Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s basketball team dropped an 83-80 overtime affair to Eastern Illinois in Lantz Arena, falling back into a tie for first in the Ohio Valley Conference with Murray State and Belmont.
